How much does storage cost?

We charge monthly per item based on garment type: Lightweight items (t-shirts, tanks): $1.00/month, Standard Apparel (shirts, jeans, dresses): $2.50/month, Outerwear (coats, jackets): $4.00/month, Formal/Special Care (suits, gowns): $8.00/month, Footwear: $2.50/month, Accessories (hats, belts, ties): $1.50/month, Bags (purses, backpacks): $3.00/month, Sports Equipment Standard: $8.00/month, Sports Equipment Large (golf clubs, skis): $25.00/month. Volume discounts of 5%–18% are automatically applied based on your total monthly storage spend.

How does shipping work?

Sending items to us is always free — we provide a prepaid return label every time, no exceptions. For getting items back, every customer gets 1 free shipment per month. Additional shipments are $15 each. For larger bulk box retrievals, you'll see the live carrier rate at checkout, capped at a maximum of $45 no matter the destination. Sports equipment shipping is handled through our ShipSticks partner at the carrier's rate.

When am I charged?

Storage fees are charged monthly at the start of each billing cycle based on the items currently in storage. Items added mid-cycle aren't charged until the next cycle. For shipping, you're only charged when you request an outbound shipment beyond your free monthly shipment. We save your payment method on file when you sign up, but don't charge anything until after we receive and photograph your items.

How do I send my clothes to Cloud Closet?

You have two options: choose "Send me boxes" and we'll ship you free cardboard boxes with a prepaid return label, or choose "I'll use my own box" and we'll send you just the prepaid return label. Either way, shipping to us is always free. Pack your items, drop the box at any UPS or FedEx location, and we'll take it from there.

Do I have to list my items before sending them?

No. Just pack your items and send them. Our team processes everything when your package arrives — we photograph each item, categorize it, and add it to your digital closet. You don't need to pre-declare or list anything in advance.

What happens when my items arrive?

We photograph the package exterior for condition documentation, then unpack and process each item individually. Every item is photographed, categorized for pricing, given an RFID tracking tag, and stored in our climate-controlled facility. You'll receive an email when intake is complete with your item count and estimated monthly cost, and all items will appear in your digital closet.

Can I send items that need cleaning?

We ask that all items be clean and dry before sending. During intake, our team will flag any items that appear to need cleaning and notify you. We are working on partnering with professional cleaning services and plan to offer cleaning as an add-on service in the future.

What if I send something that wasn't on my list?

If we receive items that differ from what's expected, we'll email you for approval. You can choose to have them added to your inventory at the appropriate storage rate or have them returned.

Log into your Cloud Closet dashboard at mycloudcloset.com from any device. You'll see professional photos of all your stored items with search, filtering by category, and status badges so you always know what's in storage and what's in transit.

How do I know where my items are?

Every item receives a unique RFID tag and is assigned a specific storage location in our facility. Your dashboard shows each item's current status — whether it's in storage, being processed, in transit to you, or delivered. You'll also receive email notifications at every stage.

Can I sell or donate items?

Selling and donation features are on our future roadmap. For now, you can request any items back and handle selling or donating on your own. We're happy to ship items wherever you need them.

How quickly can I get my items?

We process retrieval requests within 1–2 business days, then hand off to UPS or FedEx. Total delivery time depends on your location, but most domestic shipments arrive within 2–5 business days after processing.

How do you care for my clothes while stored?

All items are stored in a climate-controlled environment maintained at 65–70°F and 45–55% relative humidity. Items are stored on appropriate hangers, in garment bags, or folded with acid-free tissue depending on the garment type. We use cedar and lavender pest deterrents, conduct regular inspections, and organize items by category to prevent damage. Every item is photographed at intake to document its condition.

What if an item gets damaged?

If damage occurs while an item is in our care, you must notify us in writing within 5 business days of discovery. We'll investigate the claim using our intake photography as a reference. Compensation is based on per-item liability caps by category: Lightweight and Accessories up to $100, Standard Apparel and Footwear up to $150, Outerwear and Bags up to $250, and Formal/Special Care and Sports Equipment up to $500. While in our facility, items are covered under our liability policy with per-item caps ranging from $100 to $500 depending on the item category. During shipping, UPS/FedEx carrier liability applies per their terms. We use SSL encryption for all data in transit, encrypted data storage at rest, two-factor authentication (2FA) for account access, and PCI-compliant payment processing through Stripe.
